After 5 years of experience with WordPress, I must admit: yes, I love WordPress. There is no reason for anyone to hate this simple and powerful blogging platform. WordPress will soon be recognized as the best CMS.
Currently, WordPress powers millions of blogs and it is estimated that about 20% of websites on the Internet run on WordPress. From an amateur’s blog to a blog that earns millions, whichever blog you visit, you will find the influence of WordPress.
To understand how deeply WordPress has taken over the Internet, I managed to put together a list of 17 popular technology blogs that use the WordPress platform.
Half of the websites on this list are hosted on the VIP WordPress.com service and others use WordPress on their own server.
Tech Crunch
Tech Crunch is one of the most popular and oldest technology blogs running exclusively on WordPress. Before moving to the VIP WordPress.com service, Tech Crunch hosted its blog on its own servers.
Venturebeat
Relatively younger than Tech Crunch, but it has shown rapid growth for some time now. Just like Tech Crunch, Venturebeat is also hosted by VIP WordPress.com.
Hack a Day
Hack a Day is more than a tech blog and can be considered a geek blog. It is hosted by VIP WordPress.com and offers a minimalist design.
GigaOM
It was named in the Top 50 tech blogs by Technorati, GigaOM and is visited more than four million times a month. This blog also runs on the VIP WordPress.com service.
Slashgear
If you are a gadget enthusiast, you must have heard of Slashgear before. Like the four previous websites, Slashgear runs on a hosted WordPress platform.

Here are 12 other popular technology blogs:
- TorrentFreak
- AllThingsD
- Tech Fortune
- Digital Inspirations
- Make Use Of
- gHacks
- Space Hack
- Boing Boing
- TED Blog
- Techland (CNN)
- Mashable
- The Next Web
A simple way to see whether a blog was built on WordPress is to try to log in to the administration area (http://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin) and if you don’t get a 404 error, it’s a WordPress blog.
